Housing
The first Lindy Exchange occurred on December 4–6, 1998, between the cities of Chicago and San Francisco. Nineteen dancers from Chicago, contacted some dancers in San Francisco and asked, “can we come dance in your town, explore your venues and …. Oh, by the way, can we stay with you?” … pretty bold, right?!
Maybe, but it totally worked.
Later, the San Francisco group would go to Chicago and do the same thing, and the Lindy Exchange was born. The idea caught on quickly, and soon several other cities were offering exchanges.
Our favorite part of an exchange is the sense of community that comes from staying with dancers from other towns and we hope to keep this tradition alive. For ALX, we are using a Facebook page to assist guests and hosts in finding each other. Once you have purchased your ALX pass, go to our Facebook page and post a little blurb about yourself and whether you are hoping to be a host or a guest during ALX. You can also comment on posts from hosts.
We also have a list of hotels to choose from close to our main venue.
